Obituary of Opal Sheets Wicker
Mrs, Opal Sheets Wicker, 83 years old, of Siler City passed away on the morning of April 12, 2016. Opal was a resident of Siler City Care and Rehab for eight years. She lost her short battle with cancer at Beacon Place Hospice House attended by her family.
Opal was born on July 3, 1932 in Glendale Springs, NC. She was the youngest child of the late Claude and Rosa Lee Sheets. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Elvin Henry Wicker. Also preceding her in death are her brothers, Iredell, Hobart, Milton, Claude Jr., and Henry "Settle" Sheets; as well as her sisters Agnes Crepps and Mabel Garner.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Sandi and husband, Ronnie Caudle of McLeansville and Sharon and husband Ricky Brafford of Siler City. Opal has four grandchildren, Tori C. Winegarner and husband, Adam of Greensboro, Kimberly Caudle of Greensboro and fiance' Rusty Hedrick of Thomasville, Andrew and Kisha Brafford of Liberty, and Daniel and Brittany Brafford of Asheboro. Her great-grandchildren are Jason Brafford, Lennon Winegarner and Lydia Brafford. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Opal was a member of West End United Methodist for over 60 years where she was a member of the church choir and held numerous other offices in the church. She was a member of the Siler City Garden Club, enjoyed baking and all arts and crafts. While a resident of Siler City Center she was active in all their activities, especially Bingo.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at West End United Methodist Church, 1104 N. Chatham Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.
