Eric Hubert Bruton, age 92, USN Retired, died on Thursday, October 15, 2009. He was born in Biscoe, NC July 12, 1917 to C. L. and Annie Jane Bruton. He served in the U.S. Navy during all of WW II, The Korean conflict, Vietnam, and he retired August 1, 1974. He lived at Sunset Beach, NC. He was a member of Seaside United Methodist Church and was a Master Mason, being a member of Wilmington Lodge No. 319 for 60 years. He was a Shriner, Sudan Temple. He is a past patron of High Point Chapter Number 106, Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Patron from 1976-77 and was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. During his Naval career, he served as Navigator on the USS PC-620, USS Auburn, Flag Ship, of Admiral Holden, Commander Training Command Atlantic Fleet; USS Lindenwald, the USS Horace A. Bass, APD Navigator aboard the Naval Hospital Ship Repose out of Tsingtao Pacific theater on the China Station. He later served with the Armed Forces Radio Service as a Public Information Supervisor, ending his career as SCPO in charge of the Sixth Naval District Recruiting School and SCPO in charge of recruiting for Reserves in the Western Counties of NC. While stationed in Wilmington, NC, he was also active in Radio Broadcasting. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Lee Cribb Bruton, a son, Eric, Jr., of Raleigh, and a daughter, Jane Bruton Daughtridge, Oak Island, five grand children, six great - grandchildren and one sister, Ruth Mollman of Asheboro.A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro, NC. Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro is in charge of arrangements.
