Leta Patricia Barnes Morton, 81, of Asheboro died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Randolph Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend George Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. She was the daughter of the late Lee Gray and Lydia Mae Hussey Barnes and a life long resident of Randolph County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert William Morton, sisters Mary Louise and Jewel (Mrs. Leo) Barnes and brother John "Nook" Barnes all of Asheboro.She is survived by son Wayne Morton and wife Linda, daughter Beth Owens and husband Ivan, daughter Patricia Way and husband Jimmy, sister, Joann Rogers and husband Houston, brother Morrison Barnes and wife Ann all of Asheboro. Her grandchildren are Annette Way Sineath, Alisha Morton Williams, Billy Owens, Brandon King and Brad Morton all of Asheboro, Meredith Way Wawner of Wilmington, Jay Way of Randleman and Shawna Owens Wicker of Siler City, nine great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and special friends who were all very dear to her. She was a member of New Union Methodist Church, valedictorian of her graduating class at Farmer High School, and a homemaker. She also worked for a time as a department manager at W.T. Grant, as manager of Charles' clothing store, and as a pharmacy assistant at Car Drug.The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 16, 2009 at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro and other times at the home of her daughter, Pat Way, 1026 Cranbrook Way, Asheboro.Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC, Randolph Hospital, P.O. Box 1048, Asheboro, NC 27204-1048 or New Union Methodist Church, 1293 Union Church Rd., Asheboro, NC 27205.The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Imran Haque, the Randolph Hospital MPS 3 nurses and staff and the Hospice staff for the care, compassion and support they provided during our mother's illness.
