Marjorie Whittington Memory, 90, passed away at the family home on Monday, February 16, 2009The funeral for her will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday. February 22, 2009 at her church, First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Randleman, with Rev. Dana Bunn presiding and Eulogy delivered by Rev. Martha Welch.Marjorie was born August 20, 1918 at Duke Hospital, the daughter of John Coleman and Hettie Danenberg Whittington of Coates, NC. She grew up in Harnett County where she met and married Rev. J.I. "Jack" Memory. In 1943, Marjorie, "Jack" and their two daughters moved to Randleman where "Jack" had accepted a call to serve as pastor at the First Baptist Church. She soon returned to Women's College (UNCG) to complete her Bachelor's Degree. While "Jack" served two years in the State House of Representatives, she continued her studies full-time and was also a full-time parent. Marjorie then taught for one year in Randleman. After this, she returned to Women's College (UNCG) as a Librarian. She retired in 1979 as Head of the Serials Department.Marjorie graduated from Campbell Academy ( now Campbell University), Women's College of the University of North Carolina (UNCG), and earned her Master's Degree in Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. To complete the requirements for her Master's Degree, she wrote her thesis, The History of the Randolph County Library. This book is still required reading for new librarians in the system.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, "Jack", her brothers Paul and Victor and Victor's wife, Lucille.Marjorie is survived by her two daughters: Anne Hogenboom and her husband, David, of Easton, Pennsylvania, their daughters Julie Hogenboom and her husband, Tom, and their son Raphael of Los Angeles, California and Emily Hogenboom and her husband Erik, of San Diego, California; and her younger daughter, Flora Memory (Haynie) of Randleman, her daughter, Memory Chromik (Chris) of Yorktown, Virginia and their children Mark, Melissa and Caroline, and Flora's son, Nathan Haynie and wife Jamie and their children, Joshua and Charlotte of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Also surviving are Marjorie's cousin, "adopted brother", Julian Danenburg and cousin, "adopted sister "Dorothy Danenberg Beck and many nieces and nephews.The family will be at Flora's, the family home at 134 N. Main St. for more than half a century, for visitation, especially Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and after the service on Sunday.
