Obituary of Bobby Roger Gaines
Bobby Roger (Bow) Gaines, 82, of Goldston, NC, passed away on October 18th, 2021.
Roger was born on July 15th, 1939 in Goldston, NC to the late Robert and Gertie Gaines. He grew up as one of eight siblings. As a boy he liked spending time racing and working on fast cars while he really disliked school. Because of this, Roger didn't feel the need for formal education. As he got older, his love for the road led him to the love of his life. He began driving for Byrd Motor Line in Lexington, NC where he met Peggie Day and decided there was no going back to Goldston without her. Within weeks the two were married and there was no turning back. While everything about this relationship was rushed, the true wait would come with children. After thirteen years of marriage, Roger welcomed his first and only child at the age of 50. The family was then complete with a daughter, Maggie. (or so he thought…)
Being a dependable man was of the utmost importance to Roger and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. This became especially true after Maggie and husband, Drew Hackney, made him a Paw Paw by blessing him with two grandchildren, Finnlie and Karver Hackney.
In addition to his wife, Peggie, daughter, Maggie, and husband, Drew, grandchildren, Finnlie and Karver, he is survived by his sister Brenda Beal (Gaines), sister-in-law Brenda Gaines (Tally), brother-in-law JB Gilliland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Robert and Gertie Gaines, brothers, Wayne, Tommy, and Rick Gaines, sisters Shelby Jean, Glory Jean, Carolyn Gilliland (Gaines), brother-in-law Roy Beal and two nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Gaines Grove Cemetery on October 21st, 2021 at 11:00 am. He will lie in repose at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home on October 20th, 2021 from 12:00 pm-5:00 pm. Family will gather and welcome loved ones at the home of Maggie and Drew Hackney.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to be made to a scholarship fund set up for his two Grandchildren, Finnlie and Karver. The Hackney Scholarship Fund c/o Fidelity Bank, 1426 East 11th Street Siler City, NC 27344.
