Erma Lee Thornburg Long, age 89, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Montgomery Village Assisted Living in Star.
Mrs. Long was born in Randolph County on December 20, 1930 to Edward Wray and Ada Florence Shaw Thornburg. Erma was a graduate of Greensboro College with her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was employed as a School teacher and retired from Asheboro High School in 1987. In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel "Sammy" Long. Erma enjoyed camping, needlework, crafts, and antiques.
She is survived by her daughters, Kay Long Park (Mark) of Asheboro and Cindy Long of Asheboro; grandchildren, Chris Brower (Jessica), Jamie Bailey (Carl), Greg Park (Megan), and Bernie Griffin; great grandchildren, Strader Brower, Austin Long, Cameron Snow, Emma Snow, Lincoln Park, and Jonas Park; sisters, Pat Thomas (Vernie), Brenda Holloman (John), Martha Williams, and Kathy Bridgeman (Tony); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Erma's body will lie in repose on Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 9:00 am-12 noon at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 US Hwy 220 Business North in Asheboro with Rev. Charles Moses officiating.
