Viola Catherine Davis Garner, age 81, of Asheboro passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Mrs. Garner was born in Moore County on December 13, 1938 to Fred and Hilda Garner Davis. She was formerly employed with Burlington Industries and was retired from Rampon. Viola was a faithful Christian and loved her church, Sunset Avenue Church of God. In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Davis. She enjoyed gospel music and attending her grandchildren's activities. Viola loved to shop for clothes, shoes, jewelry, and purses, and loved to decorate for all holidays. She was a good cook.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Fariel R. Garner; son, Jim Garner (Lynette) of Asheboro; daughters, Brenda G. Garner of Dacula, GA, Sharon Hamilton (Jimmie, Jr.) of Asheboro, Andrea Staley (Kent) of Staley; grandchildren, Julie Craven, Tommy Garner (Jenny), James T. Garner, Faith Garner, Donna Peck (Gregg), David Garner, Diana Wham (Bruce), Daniel Garner (Rebekah), John Cole (Crystal), Heather Cole (Ty Cecil), Kenzie Staley, and Katie Jo Staley; 22 great grandchildren; and sisters, Louise Summers (Troy) of Robbins, Helen Seawell (Wayne) of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Betty Ann McBride (Leroy) of Star.
Viola's body will lie in state on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 1:00-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Sunset Avenue Church of God, 900 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro with Pastor Boyd Byerly officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
