Reid Thornburg

Rupert Reid Thornburg, age 88, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his home. Mr. Thornburg was born in Asheboro on May 30, 1932 to Rupert and Fannie Varner Thornburg. Reid was a 1952 graduate of Farmer High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Energizer Battery. Following his retirement, Reid worked with Pinewood Country Club. He was a member of Science Hill Friends Meeting. Reid volunteered at the NC Aviation Museum Hall of Fame. In addition to his parents, Reid was preceded in death by his brothers, Jason and Leon Thornburg. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Meredith Gallimore Thornburg; daughters, Jennifer "Jenni" T. Breedlove (Heath) of Asheboro and Laura T. Garner of Asheboro; grandchildren, Cami and Carson Garner, and Lauran Breedlove; great grandchild, Braxton Vick; brother, Roger Thornburg (Chris) of Tennessee; and sister, Sandra Routh (Randy) of Randleman. The family would like to express a special thanks Dr. Greg Grisso and to the staff of Hospice of Randolph for their special care. Mr. Thornburg's body will lie in state on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 pm Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A private funeral service will be held.
