Barry Richard "Rick" Hines

d. May 30, 2020

Barry Richard Hines of Troy, NC died on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at the age of 54. He was born on May 19, 1966 in Jamestown, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barry and Ellen Hines, also of Jamestown. He is survived by his sisters Kristie Hutchinson (Chris) of Denton and Beth Roberts (Drew) of Asheboro, as well as the following nieces and nephews: Zachary Hutchinson (Hannah), Hailey Hulin (Bradley), Adam, Charlie, and Ella, as well as a great nephew, Grayson. Rick ran the Gun Range at the Uwharrie National Forrest at the time of his death, however Ricky was many things beyond that role. He was a marine. He was a modern-day cowboy. He was an engineer. He could have easily been labeled a Renaissance Man, having been born about 200 years too late. Ricky proudly built his house by hand and cooked every meal over an open fire. He had always loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and living off the land. Ricky could always tell a good story and life experiences had given him some pretty amazing stories to tell, including a stint as a ranch foreman in Wyoming during the middle of winter. He loved to read a good book and take part in discussions about the readings, but his favorite book was always the Bible. Most of those who knew Rick well knew that Rick loved his dogs and his horses. In fact, he had raised many horses since his early 20's. Rick had also trained many horses over the years, as well as competed in many cutting horse competitions with his prize horse, Fajita Jake, who along with Fajita's daughter, Callie, still survives of the home and will be retiring to pasture with a family member. While Rick was all of these things, what he was most of all was a son, a brother, and an uncle and took pride in each of these titles. Since the death of his parents, Rick had stepped into the role of checking on his sisters and making sure they knew he loved them. We will miss his smile and his love greatly, as well as his many stories, but know we will see him again. There will be a private service for the immediate family followed by a gathering of friends and family at a later date. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the Hines family.
