Betty Jean Vuncannon Hartman

Betty Jean Vuncannon Hartman, of Asheboro passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 at her home. Betty was born on April 5, the daughter of George Melvin Vuncannon and Vessie Chambers Vuncannon. Mrs. Hartman was a native of Randolph County. Betty worked for the City of Asheboro for 32 years and then went to work for Aetna Insurance for 10 years before retiring. She was a long-time member of Oakhurst Baptist Church where she started playing the piano at the age of 12. Betty loved playing the piano, organ, singing and enjoyed eating out at her favorite places, Dixie III and Golden Waffle. She enjoyed watching American Legion Baseball, Lifetime movies and traveling with her family to Southport, Cherry Grove, Morehead City and Fort Caswell. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and her pets Precious Joy and Lucy. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband: Johnnie Reid Hartman; siblings: Irma Thomas, George Vuncannon, Louise Allred and niece: Vickie Allred. She is survived by daughters: Christa Hartman and Holly Jon (Christopher) Doerr all of Asheboro; grandchildren: KaiLee Doerr and Kinley Doerr; sister: Barbara (Claude) Winslow of Asheboro; brother: Tony (Billie Sue) Vuncannon of Asheboro; nephews: Ricky Allred, Randy Vuncannon and Terry Vuncannon; nieces: Kim Hoffman, Susan Vuncannon and Ranette Rodden. Mrs. Hartman's body will lie in state at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro on Thursday, April 23, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 pm. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be directed to: Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27205 or donor's choice.
