Florine Overton

Florine "Rene" Abernathy Overton, age 86, of Asheboro died Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Cross Road Retirement Community. Mrs. Overton was born February 6, 1934 in Lincoln County to Ernest and Ethel Sisk Abernathy. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed meeting people and making new friends. Mrs. Overton loved children and caring for them, which she had done for 25 years. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed needle point and word puzzles. Mrs. Overton was an excellent cook who enjoyed making Christmas candy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sankey Overton, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Hedrick, Elizabeth Fitzgerald and brothers, Ralph and Russell Abernathy. She is survived by her son, Rick Overton of Asheboro; granddaughter, Alecia Overton Benware and husband Brandon of Asheboro; great grandchild, Asher Benware of Asheboro. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the family. Friends may stop by Thursday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm to pay their respect and sign her register book. A private memorial service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at Cross Roads Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Mrs. Overton during her stay there. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial be made to Cross Road Retirement Community, 1302 Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, NC 27203.
