RANDLEMAN--James Howard Spencer, age 84, of Randleman passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Spencer was born in Randolph County on July 31, 1935 to Everett Lee and Martha Ann Brim Spencer. He was retired from Rampon Products and was the owner/operator of Spencer VW Repair. James was a member of Cross Road Baptist Church. James, affectionately known as Jim or Sony by his friends, umpired softball for 38 years for both the Randleman and Asheboro Parks and Recreation Departments. James was the first flagman at Caraway Speedway along with his brother-in-law, Bub Moody, owner of the speedway. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Robert, and Tommy Spencer.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise Moody Spencer; daughters, Tammy Henderson (Dewayne) of Randleman, Ginger Spillman (Randy) of Farmer, and Anita Henderson of Randleman; and grandchildren, Spencer Henderson (Katie), Megan Blankenship (Ryan), Seth Henderson (Cheryl), and Andy Spillman (Leanna), great grandchildren, Jack and Cora Lee Henderson, Makenzie Blankenship, and Malia Spillman.
James' body will lie in state from Noon to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 22, 2020 and 8:30 to Noon on Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.
A private service will be held.
