Renie Smith

d. February 27, 2020

Renie Smith of Asheboro passed away February 27, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital due to complications of lung cancer treatment. She was 72 and married to DL (Dixie) Smith for 52 years. Renie was of the Christian faith. She was a rare woman who always found a positive side to every problem, she will be greatly missed. Always cheerful, never used God's name in vain and rarely cursed. Renie cherished time with her grandchildren, especially at their baseball or basketball games. She enjoyed beach trips with her husband and their dog Rocky and fixing special goodies for after school treats. When her Dad died young, she learned to help her mother with housework and taking care of her younger brother. In the early years of marriage, she worked any job available to support the family while her husband finished college. She is survived by her husband Dixie, daughter Laura Gore and husband Chad, son Jonathan Smith and wife Karen, and grandchildren Davis and Sam Gore, and Cade and Kelsey Smith. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 3:00 pm at New Hope Memorial Gardens, 3448 New Hope Church Road in Asheboro with Rev. Carol Hunter officiating.
