Luke Gene Lewis

d. February 1, 2020

Luke Gene Lewis, Siler City resident, and owner of the Weathersby Guild's Raleigh-Durham and Greensboro franchises, died Saturday morning, February 1, 2020, of natural causes. He was 31. Luke was born June 17, 1988 to Thomas DeWitt and Naomi Joyce Booker Lewis. After graduating from Asheboro High School in 2007, Luke enrolled for two years at Randolph Community College. In 2009, he was accepted into North Carolina State University. However, he chose instead to follow his passion for music. He enrolled at the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, Arizona, where he spent the next year learning to custom-build guitars. While in school, Luke met future friend and business partner Jerome McClure. The two leveraged their craftsmanship to launch the Jacksonville, Florida Weathersby Guild in 2011. The business thrived, and Luke soon opened two additional franchises in Raleigh-Durham as well as Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2015, Luke received the guild's highest honor of Master Craftsman. Luke was a simple man. He loved guns, guitars, cars, his family, and his 10-year-old Weimaraner, Titan. His brother Matt was his best friend, his greatest supporter and advocate, and his inspiration. He relished his life on Smoky Hollow Trail. He had amazing friends and neighbors. He was a strong encourager to his friends, whom he constantly motivated to reach for more. He was a man of great discernment and humility, and a sound judge of character. An individual of deep convictions, he lived life on his own terms, and in the process he gained the respect and love of all who knew him. There will be a memorial and celebration of life service for Luke on Sunday, 2/23/2020 at First Baptist Church of Asheboro, 133 N Church St, Asheboro, NC 27203, at 2 pm. The family would cherish the opportunity to speak with visitors following the service. To all Luke’s friends – a coat and tie is not necessary. Luke hated suits and ties and I am sure he is barefoot in heaven! In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wesley Chapel Christian Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 522, Siler City, NC 27344 .
