Sidney Dale Craven, 86, of Asheboro, NC passed away on January 25, 2020 at the Randolph Hospice House.
He was born on April 19, 1933 to John A. and Myrtie Stout Craven of Seagrove, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Resal, John Edward, William, Kermit and Don and sister Ada Ruth Weatherly.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Kay Richardson Craven of the home, sons Larry D. Craven and wife Carol of Seagrove, Randy L. and wife Janie of Raleigh. Two grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Craven of Greensboro and Julie Craven of Raleigh. One great Godchild Alissa of Seagrove; two step grandchildren, Ben and wife Alicia Southern of Randleman, Chris and wife Samantha of Winston-Salem. Two great grandchildren Haley and Cameron Southern of Randleman. great Godchildren Grant, Finley and Garrett (on the way) Brubaker of Asheboro and many nieces and nephews, one brother Jack Craven of Franklinville, sister in law Kittie C. Slaughter and husband Dan of Madison Georgia.
Sidney graduated from Seagrove High School in 1951. He was a Korean War Veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in the Armored Infantry Company as an Administrative Clerk from 1953 until 1955 and received the rank of Corporal. He worked at Tip Top Hosiery, Lowe's Hardware and Glenville Manufacturing Company. He took mechanical and industrial courses at Davidson and Randolph Community Colleges. In 1969 he started Craven Services, Inc. that installs, services and repairs HVAC, electrical, commercial refrigeration, and restaurant equipment which is now owned by his son Larry. He continued to renew his State Refrigeration License until 2018.
Sidney was a former charter member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Wesley Sunday School Class, and the Chancel Choir. He was in the Randolph Community Choir and for many years was an active member of the Woodmen of the World.
He dearly loved his family. He enjoyed working with his hands especially if a motor was involved. Until the last 2 years he had a garden and he loved to go to his farm to mend fences, mow and feed the fish.
The family will receive family and friends at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC 27203 on Friday January 31st from 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Central United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 1st with the Pastor Dr. J.F. Howard, Pastor Fred Huffstetler and Rev. James Weatherly officiating. The Randolph County Honor Guards will conclude the service in the front lawn of the church.
