Pastor Johnny Ray Henderson

Pastor Johnny Ray Henderson, age 64, of Asheboro went on to meet his Lord on December 13, 2019 at Randolph Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Pastor Johnny was born April 4, 1955 in Statesville, NC the son of Donald Edward Henderson and Elizabeth Alaine Davis Henderson.

Pastor Johnny graduated from Statesville High School in 1973 and Gardner-Webb University in 1976. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1980.

Pastor Johnny began his ministry as Associate Pastor of his home church, Western Avenue Baptist Church, until he took his first Senior Pastorate at Rocky Hill Baptist Church, both in Statesville, NC. In 1984 Pastor Johnny moved to Seagrove, NC to become the Senior Pastor of Victory Baptist Church. He became the Executive Director of the Christian Action League of North Carolina in 1996. Pastor Johnny became the Senior Pastor of Cross Road Baptist Church in 1999 where he ministered for twenty years.

Pastor Johnny served on the board of Bible Centered Ministries International for over fifteen years and as chairman of the board for eight years. He facilitated and coordinated countless international and home mission's projects.

Pastor Johnny modeled servant leadership. He was the same man in the pulpit as he was at home and in the community. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matt. 25:23

He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Renea Mitchell Henderson; daughters: Adrienne (Patrick) Macon of Asheboro, Danielle (Matthew) Kelly of Asheboro, and Elizabeth Henderson of Raleigh; eight grandchildren: Gracie-Faith Macon, Josiah Kelly, Chloe Macon, Carter Macon, Joselyn Kelly, Sawyer Macon, Justus Kelly, and Landon Macon; mother: Elizabeth Alaine Davis Henderson.

Pastor Johnny will lie in state at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro on Sunday, December 15, 2019 from noon to 5:00 pm

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 4:00 pm at Cross Road Baptist Church, 1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro with Pastor Gary Mason officiating and with remarks by Dr. Martin Windle, President of Bible Centered Ministries International. A reception will be held following the service in the church fellowship hall.

The family will have a private family burial at City of Asheboro Cemetery with Dr. Ron Chaney officiating.

Memorials and in lieu of flowers: Pastor Johnny requested that contributions be made to Delivering A Blessing, P.O. Box 2446, Asheboro, NC 27204, a nonprofit organization started by the Henderson family.
