David Charles Finley passed from this world and awoke in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, November 4, 2018.
David loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. He was a devoted husband, dad, and granddad. He was full of compassion and love for people, a giver, an encourager, a listener who truly wanted to hear your story. He loved God's Word and studying it. He was a thinker who loved poetry, theory, research, and history. He enjoyed learning, writing and speaking. He was creative, intelligent and artistic, creating with his hands through woodcarving, painting and drawing. He loved tinkering with old cars, searching out antiques, crafting, and fixing old things.
He was a true self-made man, always striving to make himself better, and always helping others to recognize the best in themselves.
David was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina on June 12, 1939. The early years of David's life weren't easy ones. His dad was killed in a construction accident a few days before his 3rd birthday. He served his country in Panama for several years as a Military Police officer, and after returning home from service, he and Barbara started their own family having 4 sons, and 1 daughter, David worked at different jobs in Rock Hill before heeding the call of The Lord Jesus on his life to the ministry. He had been saved at around 6 years old and God's Love had gotten him through the circumstances he had faced so far in life. He wanted everyone to know that love. He began to pastor his first church in 1966 in King's Mountain, NC. His work for The Lord over the years took him to several locations throughout the Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Nebraska, Missouri and Georgia. His last church was in Cary, North Carolina.
