Clyde Theodore Shaw, age 95, of Asheboro, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. Mr. Shaw was born June 9, 1915 in Emporia, VA, the son of the late Eddie Carson and Lula Ada (Cagle) Shaw and he served in the US Navy during WWII. Clyde was as Acting Postmaster in Asheboro from 1959 to 1961 and retired from Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company after 45 years of service. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and attended the Full Gospel Businessmen's group in Asheboro. Clyde was very active in our community, buying and developing land, one of which became the Oak Hollow Community. He also served on the Randolph County Board of Elections. Clyde was a former Golden Glove boxer and loved running and walking in the Asheboro community. He ran in the NC Zoo Elephant Stampede Marathon and was the oldest finisher of the Asheboro Fall Festival 10K Run from 1988-1994. He continued his exercise after his retirement. Clyde could be seen running or walking his daily regimen of 4 miles near the South Asheboro Middle School where he met many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruby S. Martin, Howard, Elvin, James, and Worth Shaw. He is survived by his wife: Annie Cheek Shaw; Daughters: Barbara Coltrane and Eunice Baird of Asheboro, NC; Son: Clyde Shaw, Jr. of Asheboro, NC; Grandchildren, Rick and his wife, Libby Lewallen of Kannapolis, NC, Rodney Lewallen of Greensboro, NC, Michele and her husband, Jason Counter of Cary, NC, Carey Shaw of Asheboro, NC, C.T. and his wife, Holly Shaw, III of Leland, NC; Step Grandchildren: Chas and his wife, Rebecca Coltrane of Greensboro, NC and Barry Coltrane of Orlando, FL; Great grandchildren, Jonathan and Maren Lewallen, Anna, Katie, and Caroline Counter, Ani Shaw and Chasen Coltrane The funeral will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:30 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Barry L. Queen officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 1-2 PM at Pugh Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
