Obituary of Marian Brooks Hedrick
Marian Brooks Hedrick age 94 passed away peacefully on October 5, 2018 at her home. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia near South Boston and was the oldest child of Richard Madison (Sonny) Brooks and Janie Joyner Brooks. She grew up just outside of Raleigh, NC on her family's dairy and tobacco farm. She graduated from Garner High School and after graduation attended business school in Raleigh. She was employed as an administrative assistant by the State Soil and Water Conservation Service in Raleigh and Burgaw, NC. She later moved to Asheboro and was employed by Randolph Hospital as an administrative assistant and afterwards by Dr. William Woodruff as a medical secretary.
She was active in Frist United Methodist Church and served as a children's Sunday school teacher and later as youth counselor for Junior High and Senior High MYF. She was active in Boy Scouts having twice been a Den Mother to scout groups. She loved being in the presence of children and young people. Her hobbies included needlepoint, quilting, antiquing, gardening, cooking desserts and she traveled extensively. She enjoyed attending Little League and Asheboro High School baseball games and for years was a regular at American Legion Baseball games.
She is predeceased by her parents and two sons, infant, Thomas Thornton Hedrick and Edward L. (Eddie) Hedrick, III. She is survived by her husband of 71 years Edward L. (Bud) Hedrick, son, R. Brooks Hedrick (Jane), sister, Elva Jane Sykes, brother R. Joyner Brooks (Frances). Two grandchildren, Kate Hedrick Bever (Kyle) and Thomas B. Hedrick (Jordan). Four great grandchildren, Will and Elizabeth Bever and Brooks and Lawson Hedrick, five nephews and their families.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11:00 at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Brooks Hedrick.
