William Christopher “Kit” Elling, age 87, of Asheboro died Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at his home.

As a child Kit lived in Somerville, NJ and graduated from Somerville High School in 1949.  He spent his summers as a Park Ranger spotting fires in Idaho.  Kit attended Rutgers University and then went into the Army where he was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital as a medic.  After discharge from the Army, Kit owned and operated his own housekeeping service in New York until 1965 when he moved to Asheboro.  In Asheboro he bought and rebuilt old houses doing the electrical, plumbing and carpentry work himself.  Mr. Elling was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Elling.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Elling; step-children, Renee, Annette, Stephen and their spouses; adopted children, Marjorie and Andrew; grandchildren, Kierra, Blake and Jake; brother, Michael Elling and wife Janet Elling of Chadds Ford, PA.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 12:00 noon in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Pastor Dale McCoy officiating. Inurnment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.

The family reqests memorials be made to Paralized Veterans of America, 801 18th St. NW, Washington, DC 20006.
