William James "Bill" Schoenberger

d. June 30, 2018

William James “Bill” Schoenberger, born March 19th, 1943 in Queens, New York City passed away Saturday, June 30th at the Hospice House of Randolph County.

He grew up in Manhattan and later in Saddle Brook, NJ where he played baseball and later graduated from Lodi High School.  He then joined the Air Force in the early sixties and did part of his tour in Alaska.  It was while he was stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia that he met and married his wife, Linda Page Schoenberger.  After leaving the Air Force he got a job working for Burlington Industries in Computer Programming.  After settling and raising a family in Saddle Brook and later Carlstadt, NJ he moved his family to Asheboro, NC in 1980.  After 40+ years with Burlington Industries he retired in the mid 2000's.  He attended Ramseur Wesleyan Church and Central United Methodist Church.

He was an avid NY Rangers Hockey fan as well as the Yankees and Giants fan.  He enjoyed collecting stamps and sports cards and knocking out crossword puzzles whenever he could. He was also a very good card player and played to win (even with family).

Most of all he loved spending time with family and rarely missed his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He was an honest and kind man who had a funny sense of humor and will truly be missed by many.  He is preceded in death by parents, William Charles and Dorothy Catherine Peck Schoenberger, and wife, Linda Page Schoenberger.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Malpass and husband Don of Asheboro; son, Richard Schoenberger and wife Denise of Asheboro; grandchildren, Addie Schoenberger, Alec Schoenberger, Kaitlin Malpass, and Tyler Malpass, all of Asheboro; and brother, Robert Schoenberger of Los Angeles, CA.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 3:00-4:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.  Funeral services will follow on Thursday at 4:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J.F. Howard and Fred Huffstetler officiating.  Burial will be held in the Ramseur Wesleyan Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Randolph Hospice House, 416 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203 or the Randolph County Honor Guard, P.O. Box 1672, Asheboro, NC 27204.
