He was born on September 20, 1940, in Bear Creek, NC, to Lewis and Argie Lee Gaines Moody. He retired from Hadley Peoples Manufacturing Company. He was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church, president of the Lee Emerson Class.

Jimmy thoroughly enjoyed many sports, watching and participating, playing softball for his church league and was an avid golfer and bowler following his retirement. Spending time with his family was very important to him and he kept a tradition of spending every fourth of July with his family at Cherry Grove Beach, SC. He also enjoyed putting together puzzles and playing solitaire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Roger Vann Moody.

On October 24, 1959, he married Lucille "Bunny" Moody, who survives of the home; also surviving are his daughters, Roxann Moody and partner Julie Rowland of Winston Salem, NC, and Tammy Moody Fox of Bear Creek, NC; granddaughter, Kimberly Hedrick and husband Daniel and great-grandson Marshall of Randleman, NC; brothers: Charles Lee "Bill" Moody and wife Peggy, Jerry Moody and wife Ann, Randy Moody, Larry Moody and wife Merlyn, and Kenneth Moody; and many nieces and nephews.
