Maurice Robinson Wiles passed away on January 26, 2017 at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living in Candor, NC, after a short illness. He was 98. Born in Ripley, NY in 1918, he married Frances Gilbert in 1938. They were married for 76 years before her death in 2015. Maurice proudly served in the United States Navy for two years during World War II. He was a rural mail carrier in western New York before retiring to Florida. In the mid-1990s they moved to Troy, NC to be near their son, Jeff. Maurice enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and radio control airplanes. He was a Jack of all Trades and could repair or build almost anything. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Troy where he enjoyed singing bass in the choir. In addition to his wife, Maurice was preceded in death by his son, Robin Gilbert Wiles, daughter-in-law Sybil Boutwell Wiles, grandson Richard Wiles, sister and brother-in-law Verena and Arthur France, and brother and sister-in-law Elon and Frances Wiles. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Ellie Wiles of Troy; four grandchildren: Dawn Fagan (Glenn) of Clayton, NC; Tammy Wiles (fiancé Steven Jacobi) of Fuquay Varina, NC; Billy Wiles (Sandra) of Troy; and Jane Lindsey (Steve) of Troy; six great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 3:00 pm at First Wesleyan Church, 1368 NC Hwy 134N, Troy, NC with Dr. Edward Lindsey and Steve Lindsey officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to First Wesleyan Church, Preusz Center, 1368 NC Hwy 134N, Troy, NC 27371. Pugh-Troy Funeral Home is serving the Wiles Family.
