Zachary (Zach) Dale Goforth

Zachary (Zach) Dale Goforth, age 21, of Pekin Rd., Candor died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Zach was born May 9, 1993 at Moore County, NC the son of Dale Goforth and Staci Stutts Smith. He worked in the UPS warehouse at Southern Pines. Zach was a member of McLean Presbyterian Church of Ellerbe. Zach was a 2011 graduate of West Montgomery High School. He was a 2010 all conference football player and placed 3rd in the National Hunter Safety Team, shotgun division. He was an active member of the National Guard as a track vehicle mechanic. He was a member of HHC, 30th Brigade, Special Troops Battalion. He was attached to Charlie Company, 30th Brigade, Special Troops Battalion. He enjoyed woodworking, loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, biking and kayaking especially. He loved his family and friends, and God, always putting them first in his life and he will truly be missed by his dog, Murph. Zach was an organ donor and gave so others may live. He is survived by his father, Dale Goforth and wife Renita of Troy; his mother: Staci Stutts Smith and husband, Jamie of Candor; five brothers: Austin Goforth, Jordan Smith, both of Candor, Matt Thompson of Seagrove and Brandon Thompson of Troy, Clay Smith of Greer, SC; one sister: Hannah Smith of Hamlet; paternal Grandparents: Grady and Alvis Goforth of Candor; maternal grandparents: Phil and Faye Stutts of Ellerbe. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 pm at First Wesleyan Church, 1368 NC Highway 134 North, Troy with Rev. Brian C. Wardlaw, Sr. and Rev. John Stone officiating. Burial with military honors will be in McLean Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 735 Firetower Rd., Ellerbe.
