William Lee White, age 80, of 711 Britt Ave., Asheboro died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. Mr. White was born March 6, 1927 in High Point, NC the son of Jesse Coleman White and Stella Draughn White. Mr. White was a graduate of Asheboro High School. In January 1945 he enlisted in the US Coast Guard where he served aboard the USS General M.C. Meig's AP116 Attack Transport in multiple theaters of World War II. While in the Coast Guard he was selected to be an Honor Guard at the White House for President Franklin D. Roosevelt's funeral. He was a trained professional photographer, he worked as Owner Relations Manager at Nance Chevrolet for 24 years, was owner and operator of Carolina Sight and Sound, was self employed in Real Estate, and worked in advertising at the Courier Tribune Newspaper. After retirement he delivered school buses for Thomas Built Buses. He was member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as Scout Leader. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 45 and Amvet's Asheboro Post 205, past commander of Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 95 Norfolk Virginia and North Carolina, past member of Asheboro Civitan Club and past member of the United Fund Campaign for two years. He was known for his love of family and friends, enjoyment of boating and water sports, his love of his grand dogs, his travels throughout the United States, and his affection to arts and history. He loved the West, whether he was traveling there or watching westerns. In addition to his parents, his was predeceased by a sister, Eva Mae Truell and an infant brother. He is survived by his wife Helen Allred White, daughter Sharon W Newby and her husband Harold of Asheboro, NC, daughter; Susan L. White of Garner, NC, granddaughter Laura N. Harvey and her husband Marcus of Randleman, NC; grandson, Josh Chriscoe and his wife Meg of Raleigh, NC; twin great grandsons, Adam and William Harvey both of Randleman, NC The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 11:00 am at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph Honor Guard will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.
