William Addison Strayhorn, age 92, of Asheboro died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Strayhorn was a native of Randolph County. He was retired from the U. S. Army where he served on the front lines during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Strayhorn was an avid Tar Heels fan. Although he never had biological children, his entire family were his children. Mr. Strayhorn was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister.
He is survived by his dog, Mr. Byron Poogie; sister, Golda Fontaine; nieces and nephews, Dan and Valerie Erranton, Steve and Connie Nelson, Ronald and Ruby Strayhorn, Blake and Priscilla Martin, Blaine and Rosa Strayhorn, Don and Tina Fontaine, Lynn Fontaine, Vic and Sue Davidson, Terry and Deb Davidson, Nora Spaeth, Alex and Susan Strayhorn; great nephews, Josh and Jodie Strayhorn, Hardy and Christian Spence, Bryant Strayhorn, Ivan Strayhorn, Kevin Strayhorn; great great nephew, Cyrus Strayhorn; sister-in-law, Babs Chardanoff.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm at First E & R United Church of Christ, 221 Cliff Road, Asheboro with Alex Strayhorn officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kirsten Cox and her staff as well as Hospice of Randolph County and his caregivers Charlesanna Smith, Ramona Creech, Primela Crompton and Teresa Diggs for the love and care given to Uncle Bill
