William (Bill) Charles Massie, age 70, of 587 Brown Trail, Asheboro, NC died on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Mark Key. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. A native of Hamilton, Ohio, Mr. Massie was born on June 5, 1937, the son of the late Loyal M. and Ruth D. Massie. He attended Hamilton schools and in 1960, he graduated with a degree in Accounting from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. While in college, he met and married his wife, Lois. After graduation, his employer, Champion Papers, transferred him to Taylorsville, NC, then to Hickory where he was active in The First Church of God serving in many capacities. He was a Sunday school teacher for many years from which he formed cherished lifetime friendships. He was in the Hickory Jaycees, Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, and The United Way as well as other charitable organizations. Trendline Furniture employed him for many years, during which time he was honored by the American Business Women's Association for a "Boss of the Year" award. He was a former member of the Management Accountants Institute. Coming to Asheboro in 1985, Bill again served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, committees of the United Way, Chamber of Commerce, and the Randolph County Crime Stoppers. He believed in contributing to the area where he resided and devoted many hours of service during his lifetime. In 1998, he retired as VP of Finance and Administration from B.B. Walker Company, Asheboro, NC. Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lois Hunt Massie, of the home; Son, William (Will) L. Massie and his wife, Jackie of Asheboro; Daughter, Dianna Pollard and her husband, Dean of Asheboro; Grandson, Tyler Pollard; Granddaughters, Rachel Pollard, Holly Pollard, and Keri Anne Massie. Brothers, Richard Massie and his wife, Lozella, of Hamilton, Ohio; Donald Massie and his wife, Kim, of Bellbrook, Ohio; Sisters, Patricia Rhodes and husband David of N. Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Cheryl Ash of Madison, Indiana. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cross Road Assisted Living Community, Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, and Community Home Care and Hospice for their love and assistance during Bill's illness. The family will receive friends from 6-8 on Monday, February, 11, 2008 at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC.
