William L. Brown, Jr.

William L. Brown, Jr., age 88, of 323 Ridgecrest Rd., Asheboro died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Holly Spring Friends Meeting, 2938 Holly Spring Rd., Ramseur with Rev. Todd Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the meeting cemetery. Mr. Brown was a native of Randolph County, was a graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and attended Danville Technical College in Danville, VA. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was an active member of Holly Spring Friends Meeting, serving on numerous committees throughout the years. William was employed as the superintendent of the Waste and Water Treatment Plants in Asheboro for over 30 years and was active in state and local professional associations. The water plant is now named the William L. Brown, Jr. Water Plant. He was an active member of the Asheboro Lions Club. William was preceded in death by his infant daughter and sister, Virgie Brown Allen. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce P. Brown; daughter, Jane Brown Moore of Asheboro, NC; son, Alan Brown of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Alan Moore of Asheboro, NC, Ethan Brown of Greensboro, NC, Kathryn Moore of Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home.
