William A. Craven, Jr., age 85, of Asheboro died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Craven, Jr. was born July 12, 1928 in Wilkes County to William and Mamie Hays Craven. He was retired from Klaussner Furniture and was formerly employed with Bossong Hosiery for 30 years. Mr. Craven previously served as a security guard at Randolph Hospital and was a retired Staff Sgt. with the NC National Guard after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Randolph County Honor Guard. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved all he met. Since the age of 14, Mr. Craven was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Chandler Craven; daughters, Amy Craven Roessing and her husband Norvin of Asheboro, Julia Craven Chriscoe and her husband Keith of Asheboro; son. Michael William Craven and his wife Susan of Coleridge; grandchildren, Carly Roessing of Asheboro, Chelsea Roessing Cibelli and her husband Jason of Jacksonville, Zane Roessing, Roxanne Roessing, Kori Chriscoe, Kaci Chriscoe and Colton Craven all of Asheboro; sisters, Nancy Madison and her husband Jim of Morganton, Betty Jo McMillian and her husband Bob of Springfield, OH.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 29, 2013 at 11:00 am at Firelight Baptist Church At Greystone with Rev. Fred Ashley and Chaplain Dwight Ayers officiating. Military honors by the NC National Guard will follow the service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the memorial service.
