William “Bill” David Glenn, Sr, 89 – passed away on Saturday March 5, 2022.
Bill was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend. Bill was born to the late William & Mae Hanner Glenn, in Randleman, NC. Bill attended Randleman High School and joined the US Navy, in 1953. He married his High School sweetheart, “Sue Carolyn Groce”, on June 6, 1953. They traveled by bus to San Diego, CA, where he was stationed. While serving, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, & Good Conduct Medal.
They were blessed with two loving and devoted children – William “David’ Glenn, Jr., Asheboro and Starla Dawn Glenn, of the home, granddaughter, Nikki Callicutt (Jeff) and three great-granddaughter’s Lauren,Taylor, and Kathryn Callicutt. Uncle Bill was loved by many nieces and nephews.
After returning home from the Navy, Bill was a true Entrepreneur. He successfully owned and operated High Point Street Grocery. Later, he ran “Davie’s Grocery”, Pap’s Package Store, also worked at B&W Auto Parts, and retired from ‘City of Randleman’ Water Plant.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Sue Groce Glenn, parents, William & Mae Glenn, sister’s, Martha Glenn Brown (Irvin), Ruth Glenn Hill (Cecil), Mary Lou Hill (Don), & daughter in law, Rhena Glenn (David), and Paul Glenn (Pat).
Bill was an avid NASCAR Fan-Richard Petty and a true Carolina TarHeel. Bill knew so many people in Randolph County. He was quite the Historian. He served as the Cemetery Chairperson for Mt. Lebanon UMC for numerous years, always wanting the Veteran’s to have an American Flag, to honor their service.
The Glenn family would like to extend their thanks to Mitchell Dunn , Jerry & Ruth Green, and all the past & present neighbors of Church Street.
Bill will lie in repose at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman – on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 10:30AM – 2:30PM. A “Celebration of Life’ Service will be held at Mt. Lebanon UMC Sanctuary, Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 3:00 PM.
The service will be live streamed on the Pugh Funeral Home Facebook Page, for those who are unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Lebanon UMC – Cemetery Fund, 119 W. River Drive, Randleman, NC, 27317 and St. Paul’s Museum P.O. Box 1341 Randleman, NC, 27317
