Wendell Norris Whatley, Jr., age 49, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Whatley was a born in Montgomery County on July 21, 1966 to Wendell Norris and Sue Spivey Whatley. He was a 1984 graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School and a graduate of Guilford Technical Community College. He was a member of Flag Springs United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his father Wendell Norris "Cookie" Whatley, Sr. Wendell was employed as the Assistant Fire Marshal for Randolph County. He was a life member of the International Association of Arson Investigators North Carolina Chapter. Wendell was a NC Level 3 Fire Inspector and a North Carolina and International Certified Fire Investigator (CFI).
He is survived by his wife, Robin Bullard Whatley; daughter, Loucinda Noel Whatley of Asheboro; mother, Sue Spivey Whatley of Asheboro; maternal grandmother, Agnes Spivey of Seagrove; brothers, Chuck Whatley of Asheboro and Patrick Whatley and wife Julie of Liberty; special friend, Jordan Sparks, who the family wishes to thank for his care and comfort given to Wendell and his family in the past several months.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro with Dr. Scotty Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
