Wayne Morris McIntyre, age 78, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. McIntyre was born in Albemarle, NC on August 7, 1939 to Roy and Mantia Morton McIntyre. Wayne’s first career was carrying on a family tradition as owner of McIntyre Masonry. A school board member asked Wayne to teach Masonry and Construction at West Montgomery High School where he remained a teacher for 11 years. During this time, he became a self-taught locksmith and opened a saw sharpening shop. Wayne continued his employment with the State of NC as a maintenance supervisor at Montgomery Community College until his retirement. Wayne also enjoyed many years of service as a volunteer with the Troy Fire Department. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Van McIntyre, and his special canine friend, Abby. Wayne was a devoted husband and father. His passion was his garden, especially his tomatoes, asparagus, and corn.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeanette Harris McIntyre; son, Gary Wayne McIntyre and wife Pam of Summerville, SC; daughter, Amanda McIntyre Fountain and husband Jerry of Raleigh; former daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Blanton of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Jonathan McIntyre, Dylan Fountain, and Lilly Grace Fountain all of Raleigh; brother, Derrill McIntyre and wife Pam of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Sandy McIntyre of Star; and special canine friend, Bonnie.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A memorial service will follow on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bruce Dickerson and Chief of the Troy Fire Department, Joe Huntley officiating.
