Wayne Alfred Cox, age 79, of Asheboro died Friday, September 12, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
Mr. Cox was born November 2, 1934 the son of Yancy Orlendo "O.R." and Annie Cox.
Mr. Cox was a native of Randolph County and of Methodist Faith. He was owner/operator of Cox Grocery on Hwy 42 in Asheboro for over 50 years. Wayne was a volunteer for East Side Fire Department for 25 years. In addition to his parents and step mother, Esther Cox who was a vital part of his life, he was preceded in death by his wife: Estelle Wright Cox, his twin brother: Lane Cox and brothers, Billy and Edsel Cox.
He is survived by daughters:, Teresa Fortney and husband Brad, of Huntsville, AL and Donna Cox of Randleman; son: Anthony Cox and wife Sherri, of Washington; grandchildren: Christie Robbins of Randleman, Mallory Cox of Wilson, Justin Cox of Washington, Rachel Fortney of Omaha, NE, Shelby Dyches-Chandler of Cozad, NE, Matthew Tyndall and wife Dana, of Greenville; great grandchildren: Katelyn Robbins, Molly Robbins, Dante Dyches-Chandler, Shree Dyches-Chandler and Kaden Tyndall; sister in law: Violet Cox of Randleman..
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro with Rev. Bobby E. Marsh officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
