Walter. R. Lanier, Jr., 80, better known as, W.R., Walt or Dub, of Asheboro, went home to be
with his Lord that he loved so much on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
He was born in Randolph County, where he lived his entire life. W.R. was a devout Christian man and had a special way of ministering his faith to so many, and he was considered a trustworthy friend when you needed him. He had a kind heart and joyful soul. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1955, served in the National Guard, was a lifelong member of The Gideons International of Asheboro, member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting in Trinity where he served on several committees, and a past Sunday School Teacher.
He grew up in his father's grocery store business where he worked for several years. He was a brick mason, contractor and farmer. He enjoyed riding his tractor and tending to his cows, but most of all he enjoyed being around his family.
He married the love of his life, Nancy Laughlin, on April 22, 1956. From this union they had two children.
He was preceded in death by his father Walter R. Lanier Sr., his mother Eunice Canoy Lanier, his step-mother Iris Adams Lanier.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lanier of the home, son, Michael Ray Lanier Sr., and wife Dana, daughter, Suzanne L. Sidden, and husband Chris both of Asheboro. Grandchildren, Michael R. Lanier Jr., Brandon Lanier, Dallas Lanier, Chance Rayle and Jordan Rayle all of Asheboro. Step-Grandchildren Steven, Daniel and Autumn Andrews all of Asheboro. 5 Great and 5 Great Step-Grandchildren. Brother, Terrance B. Lanier, and wife Phyllis Ann of Sophia, Half-sister, LaRue Kinney of Asheboro and Half-brother Jimmy Lanier, and wife Linda of Coleridge. Several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 10th from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Pugh Funeral
Home 437 Sunset Ave. in Asheboro. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, April 11th, 2017 at 3p.m. at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, 3673 Hoover Hill Road, Trinity, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
