Walter James Dix, age 94, of Asheboro, NC, passed away May 15, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House.
He was born in Schoolfield, Virginia on October 28, 1922, to James Walter and Lucy Lawrence Dix.
After graduation from Schoolfield High School, Jim enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he served for 4 years assigned to the 5th Airdrome Squadron stationed in Northern Ireland.
In 1946, he married Mary Elizabeth Kizer who survives him. The couple moved to Asheboro, NC in 1948 where he was associated in the Commercial & Coin Operated Laundry Industry for over 40 years.
Jim was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Dix; son, Walt G. Dix and wife Betty; grandchildren, Jim Dix and wife Kim, Aggie Dix Ingold and husband John, Grady Dix and fiancee Jen, Kim Choate and husband Randy, and Mark Harris; great grandchildren, Laura Ann Mathews and husband Neil, Wesley Dix Vanhoy, Lila and Finley Ingold, and Larkin and Banyan Dix; great great grandchildren, Maelyn and Hank Mathews. Jim was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Dix.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Walker Ave., Asheboro. The family will receive friends following the service.
