Walter Raymond Craven, Jr., age 81, of Randleman died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. Craven was born January 17, 1933, the son of Walter R. and Ollie Inez Beane Craven.
Mr. Craven was a native of Randolph County and was a member of Clear View Baptist Church. He was a retired salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance and retired from the Randolph County Schools maintenance department. He was a veteran of the US Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict. Sonny loved the outdoors, gardening and enjoyed woodworking. He was a loving and giving man who was always there for his family and put them first in his life. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife: Elsie Lineberry Craven; daughter: Sharon Craven and brother: Don Craven.
He is survived by daughters: Debra Cox and husband, James of Randleman, Lisa Williamson and husband, Dwight of Seagrove; grandchildren: Danny (Jan) Cox of Franklinville, Sheryl (Ary) Bottoms of Boiling Springs, Chris (Kayla) Williamson of Seagrove, Aaron (Jordan) Williamson of Asheboro; great grandchildren: Jacqueline Cox, Nicole Cox, Ira Bottoms, Carolynn Bottoms, Karsyn Williamson and Paisley Williamson; sister: Evelyn (Ray) Cheek of Asheboro, and his canine friend, "Tiger".
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 1:30-3:00 PM at Clear View Baptist Church, 2721 Cedar Falls Road, Franklinville, funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Dr. Jeff Johnson and Gary Mason officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
