Walter Mason Byrd, at age 86, went home to be with his Father in Heaven on Wednesday, August 5, 2009.Mr. Byrd was a native of Polski Virginia, but a life long resident of Randolph County. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church and retired from Acme-McCrary after many years of service. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fannie and William Mason Byrd, his sister Mary Lou Gillian and brother Robert Byrd. He is survived by wife of 63 years, Ruth Varner Byrd of Asheboro, son Garrett Allen Byrd and wife Mamie of Asheboro, grandsons Mark A. Byrd and wife Amanda of Denton, Jason A. Byrd and wife Tina of Asheboro, great granddaughter Taylor Brooke Byrd and great grandsons Chase A. Byrd and Braydon A. Byrd, nephew Don Byrd of Thomasville and nieces Karen Stephens and Wanda Byrd of Thomasville.The family will receive friends Friday, August 7, 2009, from 1-2 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Other times at the home of Garrett A. Byrd, 1033 Oakwood Acres Road, Asheboro. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jon Ferguson officiating.
