Walter Earl Barker

Walter Earl Barker, age 72, of Troy died Sunday, July 11, 2010. Mr. Barker was born June 14, 1938 in Bear Creek, Chatham County, North Carolina, the son of the late Walter W. and the late Ada (Dowd) Barker and brother of the late Elbert J. Barker of Chicago, Ill. and James M. Barker of Siler City, N.C. He was a US Army veteran, a retired pipefitter welder and member of Local Union 421. He is survived by his sister, Timpie Lou Johnson of Siler City, N.C.; wife: Linda Stinson Barker of Troy, N.C.; two sons: Jeff and wife, Jan Baxley Barker of Winterville, N.C., Greg and wife, Kelly Burks Barker of Bear Creek, N.C.; grandsons: Grant and wife, Katie Albritton Barker of Greenville, N.C., Brett Barker of Bear Creek, N.C., Garrett Barker of Bear Creek, N.C.; granddaughter: Brooke Barker of Charlotte, N.C. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy, NC. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Grady Blakely, Rev. George Bradshaw and Rev. Tom Vannoy officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. A member of Mt.
