Wesley Waie Nance, age 97, of Asheboro died Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Nance was born October 27, 1921 in Asheboro to Eulice and Sarah Nance.
He was a US Army veteran of WWII where he was a member of the 10th Armor Division as part of General Patton's 3rd Army. During his time in Europe he learned French, German and Polish phrases and loved to share them with others. He loved to make people laugh and had a tradition of giving 26 cents to his friends and family on their birthday. Waie enjoyed working in his garden and in past years he could be seen riding motorbikes with the neighborhood kids. He was a member of Back Creek Friends Meeting and retired from Acme-McCrary. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nance was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Miller Nance.
He is survived by his daughter, Jane N. Frye and husband Lee of Raleigh; grandson, Dustin Frye of Raleigh; sister, Lyde Small and husband Earl of Randleman; sister-in-law, Barbara Nance of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 9:30-11:00 am at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Jon Reece and Rev. Ray Lambe officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Back Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery.
