W.R. Thomas

William Raymond "W.R." Thomas, age 61, of Asheboro passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Thomas was born in Asheboro on August 11, 1955 to Chesley and Bertha Williams Thomas. He was employed with the Randolph Vocational Workshop for 42 years. W.R. was a member of East Side Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #571 in Asheboro and a member of the Aktion Club where he served as Sergeant at Arms. In addition to his parents, W.R. was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Stanley, Lola Hogan Smith, James Thomas, Bob Thomas, Lee Roy Thomas, and Chesley Thomas, Jr. He is survived by his sisters, Sarah Uylaky of Connecticut, Carrie Voncannon and husband Larry of Asheboro, and Pat McNeill and husband Allen of Asheboro; and brother, Michael Thomas and wife Sandy of New Jersey. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm at East Side Baptist Church, 1616 E. Dixie Dr., Asheboro with Pastor Troy Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Randolph Vocational Workshop, 731 Farr St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
