Mrs. Sarah Virginia McCallum King, age 92, of 801 S. Main St., died Friday, June 27, 2008 at Randolph Health and Rehabilitation, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Key and Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Burial will follow in Why Not Cemetery, Seagrove.
Born October 25, 1915 in Biscoe, NC, Mrs. King was the daughter of the late William Lindsay and Clatie Asbill McCallum of Star. She was educated in the Star school system and was a former member of the Star Halycon Womans Club.
One of the oldest remaining members of Central United Methodist Church, she had been active in the Christian Homemakers Sunday School class where she was a former president; worked with the Kindergarten class, was a MYF mother, was a member of the W.S.C.S. (United Methodist Women) and the Good-Times club. She was retired from Acme-McCrary Corporation, Asheboro, after some 25 years.
Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, James B. King; her grandson, Derek Kesler, and her son-in-law, Dan Kesler; three sisters, Maxine M. Leach, Hannah M. Helsabeck and Margaret M. Wilkins, and one brother, Bill McCallum.
She is survived by her sons, James B. King, Jr. of Asheboro, Tommy King and his wife Cecilia of Seagrove, daughters, Marian Player and her husband Steve of Raleigh, Beth Kesler of Asheboro; grandsons, Eric King, Jon Player and his wife Jennifer, Gray Player and Bryant Kesler.
Surviving also are brother-in-law Rev. Joe Wilkins of Charlotte; and sister-in-law Elizabeth O. McCallum of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 30, 2008 from 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Building Fund, 300 S. Main St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
