Virgil Garfield Britt, age 95, formerly of Troy died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehab Center, Albemarle.
Mr. Britt was born September 29, 1921 in Montgomery County, NC, the son of Arthur Garfield and Nancy Margaret Dunn Britt.
He was a former machine operator in the textile industry and a US Army veteran. He enjoyed reading, watching westerns on television, traveling and collecting watches.
Virgil's favorite restaurant was Cracker Barrel where he thoroughly enjoyed eating.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sons Ronnie Britt and Harvey Epps; two sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife: Ruby Harvell Britt of Albemarle; three daughters: Bonnie Jarrell and husband, Donald of Asheboro, Lena Sue B Brown and husband, Michael of Troy, and Carolyn Hager and husband, Glenn of Mt. Gilead; one son: Bobby B Britt and wife, Tammy of Southport; daughter-in-law Gloria Epps of Troy; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Lomax Memorial Baptist Church, Correll Rd., Troy. The funeral will immediately follow at 5:00 pm with Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in Lomax Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Troy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Montgomery County Humane Society, c/o Sally Morris, 1150 Okeewemee Rd., Troy, NC 27371.
