Virgie Cranford Lucas

d. August 16, 2010

Virgie Cranford Lucas, born September 10, 1929, died peacefully Monday morning, August 16, 2010 at Clapp's Nursing Home, where she was a resident for 11 years. Most of her adult working life was spent at Luck's Foods in Seagrove, where she retired in 1992 after 25 years of service. Virgie was a sweet and humble person with a servant's heart and a kind and compassionate spirit. She loved her family and valued her friends. In the years before her declining health, she was a tireless and selfless worker, always caring for the needs of her family before herself. She was a gifted cook, loved plants and flowers, and had quite the green thumb. Children always brought a smile to her face. She possessed a simple, unwavering, childlike faith that was evidenced through her life of humility, service and self-sacrifice. The love of Christ was revealed in the life she lived. Even the dense fog of Alzheimer's disease could not conceal her humble and sweet spirit. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Raeford Lucas of Seagrove. She is also survived by her two children, Deborah Lucas Yow of Asheboro and Randy Lucas and his wife Kathy of Salisbury and her four grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Yow and Matthew and Casey Lucas. Even though they lived with the slow progression of Alzheimer's disease for many years, her family has been profoundly blessed and cherishes the memory of each and every smile, every laugh, every tear and every prayer. Her family is grateful to God for every single moment they were privileged to spend with her. Virgie's family would also like to offer a special word of thanks to the caring staff of Clapp's Nursing Home in Asheboro for the compassionate and competent care she received across the years, and their kindness and support in this season of loss. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 17, 2010 from 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, and at all other times at the home of Garnett and Shelton Brock, 217 Ridge Road, Seagrove. The funeral will be held at Seagrove United Church of Christ on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 4:00 pm with Rev. Randy Lucas presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
