Vernon Lister "Pig" DeBerry, age 85, of Troy died Monday, May 9, 2016 at his home.
Pig was born January 12, 1931 at Mt. Gilead, the son of Lister and Pat Smith DeBerry.
He was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Troy and a retired employee with twenty-five years of service from the NC Department of Corrections. He was also a former employee of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
Pig loved Blue Grass music, spending time in the mountains, hunting and gardening. Most of all he loved his family.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Brownie, a brother, Wesley DeBerry, two sisters, Edna Burrow and Lillian Mathis.
He is survived by one daughter: Deborah D Roach-Brown (Terry) of Troy, and one son: Danny V DeBerry (Anita) of Troy; four grandchildren: Benji DeBerry (Christy), Kimberly Brown (Devin), Jennifer Watts (Kirk) and Ashley Mishoe (Brian); seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Laney Lassiter of Troy.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 6-8 pm at First Wesleyan Church, 1368 NC Hwy 134N,Troy. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at First Wesleyan Church with Dr. Edward E. Lindsey officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will be in First Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Troy.
