Vernon Franklin Gordon, age 94, of Asheboro died Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home.
Mr. Gordon was born July 26, 1921in Stokes County to Tully Franklin and Lula Middleton Gordon. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and was retired from Burlington Industries after 39 years of service. After retirement Mr. Gordon went to work for the Randolph County Landfill. He was a loving, kind and sweet father, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Annie Hancock Gordon and his sisters, Mildred Beaver, Wilma Bennett, Mary Parker and Eva Coltrane.
He is survived by daughters, Linda Faulkner and husband David of Asheboro, Susan Smith and husband Fred of Asheboro; son, Darrell Gordon and wife Sylvia of Asheboro; grandchildren, Keith Varner and wife Michelle of Shelby, DeLisa Dalton and husband John of Wilmington, Brad Smith and wife Kelly of Texas, Jenny Green and husband Ted of Greensboro, Kimberly Grigg and husband Robbie of Asheboro, Lisa Floyd and husband Danny of Asheboro; great grandchildren, Hayes, Hudson, Samantha, Ashley, Dakota, Mia and Vanessa.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. A graveside service with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro.
