Vernon E. Simmons, Sr.

Vernon Eugene Simmons, Sr., age 74, of 3846 Love Joy Road, Troy died Monday, April 4, 2011 at his home. Mr. Simmons was born July 4, 1936 in Randolph County, NC, the son of the late Rufus Raleigh and the late Minnie Jeanette Hughes Simmons. He was a former employee of Capel Rug Mill and loved bluegrass music. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Jean Simmons, grandson, Brandon Simmons and stepdaughter, Peggy Callicutt. He is survived by one daughter: Janice Saunders of Troy; three sons: William Simmons, Ernest Simmons, both of Troy, Vernon Simmons, Jr. of Asheboro; one sister: Pearl Frye of New Hope; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 pm at Callicutt Chapel Wesleyan Church, 1100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Troy with Rev. Garland Hall officiating.
