Vernon Callicutt, age 84, of Randleman died Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Randolph Hospice House.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Chester Memorial Gardens in Chester, SC with Rev. John Porter officiating.
Mr. Callicutt was born in Guilford County, NC on April 15, 1929 to Bethel and Ola Cockman Callicutt, who preceded him in death. He was retired from Schlegel Manufacturing in Chester, SC. He was formerly an Auxilliary Policeman in Chester, SC and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Chester, SC, where he was a one-time choir director and Sunday school teacher. Vernon was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty McElveen Callicutt.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Callicutt; sons, Dr. Keith Callicutt and his wife Kaye of Johnsonville, SC, Kenneth Byron Callicutt and his wife Mary of White Lake, MI; step son, David Alton Whitman and his wife Angela of Asheboro, NC; step daughter, Kaye Frances Groome and her husband Bill of Asheboro, NC; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; sister, Doris Stutts of Morristown, TN; brothers, Byron Callicutt of Morristown, TN and Bobby Callicutt of Randleman, NC.
