Vernie Wade Cross

Vernie Wade Cross, age 84, of 593 Collier Rd., Lasker, NC died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. Mr. Cross was born April 12, 1925 in Asheboro, NC the son of William Boyd Cross and Alta Mae Lamar Cross. Vernie served in the Navy in World War II and was a Merchant Mariner. He was owner of B&W Clothing in North Myrtle Beach, SC and Portsmouth, VA. He is survived by his wife: Betty Whitaker Cross; one daughter: Terri Cross of Virginia Beach, VA; 2 grandchildren;2 great grandchildren; three sisters: Elizabeth Casstevens of Euclid, OH, Barbara Brown of Harrison, AR, Betty Lee of Asheboro, NC and three brothers: Bobby Cross and Douglas Cross of Asheboro, NC, and Jimmy Cross of Greensboro, NC A memorial service will be held at a later date.
