Samuel Vernace Pugh, age 72, of Franklinville died Friday, January 21, 2011.
Mr. Pugh was a native of Randolph County, an United States Army Veteran and a 1956 graduate of Grays Chapel High School. He was a farmer and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he served on a numerous committees and was a Sunday School teacher. Vernace was a member of PawPaw Pal's at Level Cross Elementary School, and a member of Randolph County Livestock and Poultry Association. Vernace was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be deeply missed in the community. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Urilla Pugh, sisters, Sally Allred and Betty Barnett.
He is survived by his wife: Betty Jarrell Pugh, of the home; son: Sam Pugh and his wife, Jennifer of Franklinville; daughter: Vicki Pugh Ellison and her husband, William of Franklinville; brother, Clarence Pugh of Franklinville; sisters; Helen Wallace of Greensboro, Ida Mae Stout of Randleman, Ernestine Lineberry of Julian and Jan Yow of Greensboro; grandchildren, Ben and Matt Pugh, Nathan, Samantha and Daniel Ellison.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral will be held Monday, January 24, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3650 Bethany Church Road, Franklinville with Rev. Dr. Russell Brownworth and Rev. Samuel Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
