Mrs. Cagle was born in the Steeds Community on December 17, 1927 to Orlendo P. and Louella Cole Brown. She was a 1945 graduate of Westmoore School where she was the class valedictorian and a 1946 graduate of Jones Business College in High Point, NC. She married Wade Sidney Cagle on August 14, 1947. After graduating college she was employed with Man-Lee in Asheboro. She worked for another 40 years in textiles, primarily bookkeeping, which was what she loved most. Verlene was great with numbers. She then joined New Union United Methodist Church, which already felt like home as her son Kevin, his wife Amy and numerous other friends were members of New Union also. Ms. Verlene loved bowling and was a lifelong member of the Zooland Women's Bowling Association. She bowled up to her change of residence to Carillon, and loved her Senior Bowlers. She was also an avid gardener, lover of wildflowers, song birds, and a wonderful cook, especially desserts. In addition to her parents, Verlene was preceded in death by her husband, Wade, and infant son, her sister Iris Rollins, brother Nolan Brown and twin brothers Lloyd and Floyd Brown.
